Resolved SSD partitioned HD for late 2011 27" iMac

Hi,

I have a late 2011 i7 27" iMac with a 256G SSD. I want to replace it with a 1TB SSD and partition it keeping the current (Lion) OS on one side (to keep my Avid and Adobe software intact) and High Serra on the otherside to run Premier pro software.

What HD is recommended? Anyone running a Samsung drive? What model will run in my machine?

This is doable.

I would partition it so that "the first partition" is 256gb, then use CarbonCopyCloner to "clone over" your Lion install to the new SSD.
Then, install High Sierra to the other partition.
BE AWARE that there is a terminal command that will install HS onto the other partition WITHOUT automatically converting it to APFS.

I'll reckon that just about any 2.5" SATA SSD will do.
I prefer Crucial or Sandisk to Samsung, but that's just me.

So I got a Sandisk 1T drive. Cloned my original HD and partitioned it to 2 500G each. When booting to the new partition to install High Sierra, I went to recovery mode and chose to install a fresh OS from the options. The only choice is to install Lion again. Should I install Lion and then upgrade to High Sierra or is there a better way to install directly with High Sierra?
