SSD performance on USB-C slower?

I was very surprised to see that the Samsung T5 connected to one of the two USB-C ports on the Mac mini does only 390 MB/sec read/write. Connected to USB 3.0 on the iMac I had before it did over 500 MB/sec read/write. What can explain this difference? Has anyone noticed this with external drives?
