Not sure if this has been mentioned before. I just purchased my MBA last week and I found out there's times I close the lid of my computer to do something else. But my MBA won't wake up after I open it up.

I can hear something inside the machine. I had to hold down the power button for a few seconds till that noise is gone and press the power again to restart the computer.

Is this a hardware problem or software problem? How do I fix it?

there was a software update to fix this that was released 2 days ago? This happened to me before I just closed it again...gave it 5 secs..reopened it..but havent happened ever since that firmware update
 
Apple issued a firmware update to resolve this on 8 December so if your machine is only a week old it should have come with the update. If you want to be sure go to :apple:>About this Mac>More info . . . On the subsequent screen, Hardware Overview, the fourth line from the bottom should read: MBA31.0061.B01. If it doesn't, run Software Update to get the firmware update.

Just FYI, some of us still have occasional Kernel Panics even after this update, though it did fix a lot. Let us know if you still have any issues.

In particular, there appear to be some issues if you are running Parallels Desktop (I use Parallels and am still getting occasional panics). A new build of Parallels just came out today that purportedly addresses compatibility with OS X 10.6.6, so hopefully that solves it.
