SSD that works (for sure) on Mac Pro 2008?

Hello
I want to buy a SSD for my Mac Pro 2008. Please, can you suggest me someone that works for sure on this mac?
 
I have an OWC SSD in my 2008 Mac Pro, it works just fine. Any SSD should work in a 2008 Map Pro, there is nothing specific or particular about a Mac Pro 2008, any SSD should work just fine.
 
OWC 3G SSD in Mac Pro 3,1 here too. Works well, imported to the UK with no trouble at all.
 
Any standard SSD will work. To mount the SSD in a Mac Pro drive sled, you will either need to get a 3.5" SSD model or get an adapter.

Usually the most recommended SSD brands here are Crucial, Samsung, Intel.
OWC is difficult to find in Italy and I know it very well since I'm italian.
I would suggest you to go with Crucial M4 given its price/performance/firmware ratio.

I know at least 3 people using Crucial M4s in their older Mac Pros. They're good.

Better question would be "Is there an SSD that DOES NOT work" in a 2008 Mac Pro? Get what your heart desires. Personally I'd go Samsung 830 or Intel 520.
 
The crucial M4's have dropped a lot in price... not sure why, are they about to be replaced?

You can get the 128gb in the UK for £88....

They were £115 a couple of weeks ago... now they 'retail' for £110 and the street price is 88... @ ebuyer.com

It is an intesting price in Italy too. Are they good for OsX? Do they need trim or what?
 
I use my M4 SSDs with firmware v309 as is, no mods. They're still as fast today as they were when I got them, so the normal garbage collection seems to be just fine.
 
Three months now, since early February. It has about 1600 hours on it. (I had a S.M.A.R.T. utility trial, but it ended. It was over 1100 hours about a month ago.)
 
Any SATA II or SATA III SSD will work. An SSD that would NOT work would be a PATA-style SSD that is designed to work with older Parallel ATA type connectors like in the old PowerBook G4s. Yes, they do make PATA SSDs.
 
I have an Intel 2nd generation 80 GB SSD - just big enough for the O/S. May not be the fastest but it has a rep for longevity. Works great and has been rock solid for a few years, I think. Been so long I've forgotten when I bought it.
