HI I just installed 2 ssd vertex 2 series 120 gb and when I transfer files to it it takes very long. When I transfer from another hard disk or when I try to transfer from y card reader ( 16 gb two hours). Is this normal, do i need to do a special set up?
Thanks

Was it faster before the SSDs? What happens if you just try to move a file from an SSD to SSD, how fast is that?

Super fast !
But HDD to SSD super slow

Yes it was very fast it is still fast except when I transfer files to SSD

Well, is the HDD in a drive bay inside the MP, or in an external enclosure ?

Also, are you doing a simple drag and drop copy, or are you using a cloning program ?

Finally, are both the HDD and SSDs partitioned in GUID ?

We need some real numbers here. Hard to work with measures such like "very". :p

A benchmark (AJA system test) from every involved hard drive would be nice.

Ok to copy a compact flashcard 16 gb USB to the ssd it take 60 min aprox.
To copy from the internal HD ( 7200 mp 1.5 TB) on drive bay no. 3 to the internal SSD on bay drive 1; what takes a lot of time is the "Estimating Time remaing" like 2 min, then to copy a 55 mg it takes 6 min.
None of the ssd or Hd are partitioned in GUID and i do drag and drop to copy.

On the other SSD It copies less then a second.

I think I know what it is, the the mount accessory of the bay 3.5, the screws don't fit in well, so I can't attached the ssd disc well on the mount and there is a connection problem. My ssd mounts of once in a while. I will have to find screws that fit in better.
Thanks[/QUOTE]

Yep it was that, Changed screws and now it fit well, all working great!-

Why not simply place the SSD in the second optical drive bay? I have an adapter tray for it, but didn't bother installing it - I don't move the Mac pro around, so I've just put the drive in the optical bay, loose, leaving all the drive bays available for hard drives (2 WD blacks in RAID 0, a WD Green as a TM backup and the original 1 TB WD Black as an 'extra' disk).

Transfer from the CF card is bottlenecked by the CF card itself and the card reader (I'm assuming you have a UDMA reader? My lexar transfers 16 GB of photos within a few minutes over USB - SanDisk Extreme III 30mb/sec cards. Try the same over a 'normal' reader and we're talking an hour...)
