SSD UPGRADE 11"

Hi

I am looking to upgrade the SSD on my MacBookAir7,1 (11") early 2015.

I need a 1TB disk.
I saw the Transcend JetDrive 820. (speed according to data: read & write 950MB/s)

My question, how fast is the "original" ssd that is built in, in my macbook? (cant fidn the info)
Is the Transcend slower or faster?

Transcend is slower but supposedly an Apple 1TB SSD won't physically fit.

Top sequential speed from the SSD should be around 754 MB/s for reads, and 316 MB/s for writes and as low as 181 and 138 MB/s...

Another review posted 650MB/s read and 300MB/s write speeds using stock Apple 128GB SSD.

I did a quick search and this is what I found for a early 2015 MacBook Air 11 inch...

Transcend's should be "fast enough" depending on what you do.

More expensive but could do Samsung 950/960 with adapter. Other threads are talking about that option. They even offer a 2TB version.

AN MBA has never been accused of being a speed demon. My Transend 480 GB SSD was marginally faster then the OEM 16GB SSD in my 2012 11" MBA. And PLENTY fast for the MBA,

Only one that shows compatible would be the JetDrive 820 (see chart at https://www.transcend-info.com/Products/No-787)

JetDrive 825 is nice as is same thing but includes TB external enclosure to move old drive to. Not sure why they don't list as compatible but I did see a comment that some 11" 2015s came with an SSD that won't work in older machines.

Yeah. Again i read issues about sleep & heat etc. i wana avoid this. Rather just plug & play.

Someone posted before you that it does not seem to work... so confusing. Used to be so nice with apple... always getting more and more complicated & expensive. I feel like the pro is not a pro anymore... no upgrades possible. so annoying at times.

I just upgraded one of my pros cd drive into an hdd. So sweet and easy

I am using an Intel 600p with a sintech adapter on an early 2015 13" air. No sleep or heat issues for me.

For me, apple OEM drives are terribly expensive and the Intel was an excellent price.

Several years have reported no problems with the newer black, long sintech.

I'm using the 256 because it was on clearance from a local computer shop for $70 CAD. My air only came with 128.

I had 128 so I went up 100% with an Intel 600p.

Looks like the sintech adapter and an Intel 600p is a better value than the 820. I'm interested in upgrading mine to 1TB for a decent price. Not sure if the 2015 11" can take full advantage of the speeds... and maybe heat is an issue in the 11".

It's good to see there are more options to upgrade the storage. Getting 1TB in the 11" will be great.

I posted in the "MacBook Air 2017 SSD..." thread where I installed a Samsung 950 PRO NVMe M.2 drive with sintech adapter in a 2013 MacBook Air 13 inch (recently given to my brother) and I just installed the same NVMe drive to my new 2015 MacBook Air 13 inch a few days ago.

There is a member who installed a Transcend JetDrive 820 960GB in his Macbook Air 6,2, 13" i7 with less than expected results.

The Samsung 950 PRO drive in my current MacBook Air is 3x faster than the original 256GB Apple SSD that I used to have. I'm averaging around 1300 MB/s Write and 1500 MB/s read with this drive. Only drawback is that I have APFS format on my drive which delays bootup time to around 25 seconds... once the OS is up the computer more than meets my expectations.

I haven’t experienced any reliability issues since installing this setup in my MBA.

Not sure about others but heat is not an an issue for my 13" air with the Intel 600p.

I don't understand what's wrong with Transcend JetDrive 820 960GB PCIe SSD, but its speed is terribly low, and the system freezes when you exit sleep mode. See Disk Speed Test vs Apple SSD SM0256G (Samsung MZ-JPV256S/0A4). Clear MAC OS X 10.12.6 on MAC Pro late 2013, trim enable.

Updated Transcend JetDrive 850 960GB https://www.transcend-info.com/Products/No-956, but we haven't tested it.
