SSD upgrade + Raid Array Creation?

So, right now I have a WD Raptor 10k that I'll be upgrading to an SSD in the near future. In the 3 other bays, I have 3x1TB WD Blacks.

Now, I would prefer to set this up as a Raid 5 array (as a single disk for data) and use my ssd as a boot/app disk.

Now I know that Disk Utility has a built in configuration for Raid 10, and that I would need a raid card to create a raid 5 array.

Further, I have read up on MacZFS and believe I could make a single, backed up disk out of my 3 drives. I am just nervous about using this filesystem for business.

The computer is used for graphic design. What would you guys recommend?

You have some options.

You could put the SSD in the optical bay space, buy another matching 1TB drive and RAID10 the four 1TB drives in the four slots.

You could put the SSD in slot 1, and make a RAID0 of your three 1TB drives, then back that data up regularly with a single external 3TB or 4TB drive.

You could drop some cash on a hardware RAID card, and get the benefits of parity RAIDs, which can get expensive.

ahh, i hadn't thought of putting the ssd in the optical bay. I already have an extra 1tb black that the computer shipped with. Thank you very much for the idea. I might have to give that a try. thanks
