Hi, Sorry if I'm barking up the wrong tree as I'm not up to speed on tech.

I have an early 2009 iMac with 8mb memory running El Capitan (the latest OS it will take).

Recently start-up has been a problem: it takes ages, especially after a crash when each app gets a spinning cog. I've slimmed down apps, run Disk Warrior, Onyx, etc but it isn't much faster. The Mac is also crashing when I put it to sleep overnight.

I was looking at a new machine but like many people I was disappointed on Tuesday when no new iMac appeared.

Would an SSD drive help? I was thinking I could install OSX on there and run it separately to the HD. Is this possible, please?
