Hi there, first post here.

I would like to create a RAID0 SSD set from a couple OWC Mercury Pro RE's. My best option at this stage is put them in the optical drive bays of my 3.3 6core 2010 as I haven't used an optical drive in well over a year.

I've read that an adapter isn't needed for the lower optical bay, and I'm wondering if one is really essential for the top optical bay?

The other question I had was I wondered if I used a dual adapter and placed both ssd's in the lower optical bay, will the sata and power leads from the upper optical bay reach to the lower bay? That way I could leave the optical drive in but just have it disconnected. Perhaps there are some sata and power extension leads that would be reliable enough?

Thanks, appreciate your thoughts.

Worth checking for SATA connectors on the motherboard you can feed up to the lower optical bay.

I don't have explicit knowledge on the 2010 model but in the original 2006 model there was 2 sata connectors which i cabled and fed the wiring up into the lower bay and run two ssd's from there.

This is what your ODD bay connectors look like. So yes, you can do it exactly as you described.
