Hi there,
I'm starting my journey with cMP 3,1 towards extending its life as much as possible.
What I understood, my cMP should be able to run newer AMD cards with SSE 4.2 patch. But what will happen with Windows 10 at bootcamp? Will windows drivers make this card up and running as well?

Thanks!

Microsoft doesn't drop compatibility with old PCs like Apple does with old Macs. AMD and Nvidia are likely the same. They can add optimizations for SSE4.2 and not drop support for non-SSE4.2 CPUs.

Microsoft, AMD, and Nvidia don't sell CPUs or don't have a monopoly on CPUs or sell other products so they don't have to remove support of old CPUs to force users to buy new products like Apple does.

You 100% sure about those last two?

WIndows 10 runs on all Mac Pros. I have it running on my 2,1 as well as 5,1.

My guess is that Windows requires at least SSE2 which has been around since the Pentium 4 and AMD64.

I'm not aware that graphics cards require SSE4.2 but maybe I haven't been keeping up.

You can tell that I'm an SIMD fan from my username.

Windows gpu drivers are simple.
Go get them and install them.

when apple has no gpu drivers for OS X. Thinking. Nividea currently...
That’s the messed up part.

Even more fun is finding an apple driver for updated Upgraded Bluetooth card in an old Mac, for windows.
Broadcom themselves have no drivers available, zero....the driver I think only exists on Apple servers, and your system determines what Drivers they send you. Regardless of what actual hardware is.
Have a old Mac but need a bootcamp 6 driver? Things get complex.
Lots of fun.

If you own an old mac and you can't get current drivers, Hackintosh may be a viable option as they do try to provide drivers for non-Apple hardware, even if it's for an Apple computer.
