SSL Certificate for my website. Advice please.

I want to have SSL certification on my family history website. Can someone explain the procedure for doing this, please? I haven't a clue. Thanks in advance.

I'd suggest starting with something like letsencrypt which provides free SSL certificates and also some useful guidance about how to go about applying the certificate.
The precise process will depend on who is hosting your website so your best bet is to start with their help pages if they're not explicitly mentioned in Letsencrypt's documentation

As noted, go with letsencrypt free certs using certbot: https://certbot.eff.org
