If you can't get it working, you may not be able to send/receive mail. I'd contact the email provider (whether it be a public email, work email, school email, etc.).

If your just sending a casual email to a friend then its not really that important IMO However if your a business man, sending important and private information to colleagues high up, you might want it on.
