I am looking for a portable stand that I can position my iPad in portrait mode for typing. The Amazonbasics and twelve south compass look closest to my use case but not sure if these are suitable for typing in portrait position. Please let me know if you have other recommendations?

I currently have the twelve south compass stand. In portage mode up-right it’s absolutely the best for reading magazines and newspapers in full single page mode. In landscape mode it’s great for doing email and things like apple news. A pleasant surprise was folded down with the center leg’s little leg folded out into good for typing in either portrait or landscape mode.

BTW: Their HoverBar Duo is awesome too...

It is and I have tat as well. However set up takes longer and for typing in landscape mode the bottom must be touching solidly otherwise too much vibration. I use the HoverBar for Webex, zoom, and FaceTime while relaxing.

I have an Apple coffee mug full of pennies to weight it down. (Funny, the bank was 'begging' for pennies. I took in nearly 50 pounds of them. They looked at me, then the box, then me, then the box. 'What?' They tossed me a handful of coin wrappers, told me to bring them back, wrapped. Yeah, sure, that's really going to happen, yep, I'll get right on it. Apparently the small stand-alone banks don't have coin wrapper machines anymore. Not having them was rather stunning, considering 'money' is what they do... Or so we all thought. If the mug isn't heavy enough, I have more)

Mainly price. It gets good reviews here but seems to be a mixed bag on Amazon reviews. This is my primary stand for my 12.9 and Mini 6 but probably falls outside of most portable viewpoints -

I have an earlier Compass version, and it's a mess to type with in portrait mode. Keeps falling over. Landscape seems like it would be much more stable. It is solidly built. Impressive weight. Wish it was more stable portrait mode (or I 'type' too hard).

Ugh. The move to “roll your own coins” is one of my least favorite applications of passing the work to the customer.

Sounds like time for a surcharge! Plus, at 50 pounds, there’s likely some actual copper in there, they should be paying you!

They actually asked if I had some when I brought in some quarters I had rolled. (I inherited a box of quarters too)

I figured since they asked, they wanted them bad enough to roll them. They offered to bag my quarters and send them to 'the branch office' for rolling, but didn't even offer for the pennies. And copper in pennies? It's more zinc and other crap metals now. (Although I have a bunch of steel pennies) But anyway.

The Hoverbar Duo is AWESOME. I was hesitant to get it, but am now thinking of getting another one. (And I have plenty of pennies)

I tried a range of stands from Amazon before settling on this one..

Lamicall Tablet Stand, Adjustable Tablet Holder - Foldable Desktop Stand Mount Dock for iPad Pro 12.9, 11, 10.5, 9.7, iPad Air mini 2 3 4 5 6, Switch, Samsung Galaxy Tabs, iPhone, Tablets - Black https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08NDL1...abc_Q1AFV27QKZSQT6H0BTPR?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

It is very sturdy, good range of adjustment, collapsible, well made and constructed and aesthetically pleasing too.

I highly recommend it.

I also have this one… that I carry in my laptop bag to support an Asus 15” portable monitor.

Pepper Jobs SSS-T6 (Solid Sturdy Stand) 2021 Foldable Extendable & Adjustable Stand for tablet / portable monitor / laptop. Dual-Pole Support. Ideal to hold 12” to 17” larger size devices (Black) https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08LSSN...abc_7ZMVB0JKTZPF0V8SZDZ3?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

It is solid with a good range of adjustment, inc height adjustment and supports my monitor with ease.
Not as aesthetically pleasing as the Lamicall above.

I have also tried the smaller Pepper Jobs stand (for mobiles and smaller tablets) but it was too light and flimsy in comparison and constructed with more plastics than aluminium.
