I updated my iPad 10 to iPadOS 26, and upon setup, it asked me which multitasking type I wanted. Menu bar, close/min/max buttons, and window snapping seemingly all work.

Performance is terrible (expected with beta) but part of me wonders if this was a happy accident which will be removed.

They said in the keynote that the new windowing features are available on all iPads that support iPadOS 26, so it’s not a mistake

My bad. I missed that bit. I remember when it was a big deal that they were bringing Stage Manager to the 2018 iPad Pro, so I’m surprised they brought the full set of features to all models back to 8th gen iPad.

they removed Split View
Yeah, that kind of makes no sense, they should have removed stage manager not Split View.

I haven't put the beta on anything yet but I want to see if they managed to keep the benefits of the Split View app multitasking view (the ability to drag and drop apps between splits and back out of splits into fullscreen). The drag and drop management of Split View (when in the multitasking overview) is amazing.

I'm running iPadOS 26 on the 2021 9th-generation iPad and love being able to use Stage Manager and resizable app windows. I was not expecting Apple to add all of the multitasking features to this old iPad.
