Yes, I have one of those too and I had it replaced under the Apple recall programme and now it happens again. Recall programme no longer in effect.

So now I like to remove it myself as the MBP is still in good working order.

But there is the snag. I tried many things and there is about 1/3 of the screen that refuses to give up the coating. To put you in the picture of what I used and did not work. Hope if did not forget one as I maybe forgot one after all the days that I am at it.

Baby wipes

Baking soda mixture

Carpet-cleaner fluid

Coke (as in the drink 😊)

Deferent kinds of glass/window cleaner

Disinfectant in several forms

Disinfecting wet wipes

Hand soap

Isopropyl alcohol

Listerine

Nail polish remover

Oil

Sticky tape

Toilet cleaner

Toothpaste

Washing-up liquid different brands

All of them I used by rubbing and some I used by letting it soak and next rub. Some I used in combination by mixing them.

As you may guess I am a bit desperate here. And I figure I am not the first on the be here. So, who has a solution that is not available on the internet. Believe me I ploughed the internet for at least 2 hours. But most of it reaps the same solutions, the Listerine or Baby wipes method.

Thanks.

Listerine worked for me. Seeing as you've already tried it, what I did was used a microfiber cloth moistened with Listerine. I had to be vigorous and persistent. But it worked & smelled minty fresh!

Good morning and thank you for replying. Indeed, Listerine and a microfibre cloth did not do it. See I got the first damage of by simply cleaning it with a cloth and screen cleaner. What was left did come of a little bit with Listerine, but as you can see on the picture there is remains. And that was treated with the stuff I listed above to no avail.

I enclose a pic what the screen looks like.

Further research showed me a product form France that claims to solve it. 4STARSCLEAN KIT - Cleaning Spray. I am suspicious if that would work. I suspect it is no more powerful than any of the things I tried. Has anybody out there tried this?

Do you see any issue when the MBP is actually powered up? I have three 2014/2015 MBPs all suffering Staingate but there is no trace of it on the display once they are powered up.

I used Clorox Disinfecting Wipes, Crisp Lemon Scent and lots of elbow grease, and I removed the laminate schmutz from a Late 2013 13-inch and a 2015 15-inch rMBP.

It also takes a few minutes of strong scrubbing before you see anything disappear, but it eventually does.

Screen seems a tiny bit brighter after I removed all the laminate.

Thanks Earl. Believe me elbow grease was used to no avail. If you look at the psot on the right of the picture it had about 2 hours of treatment.
As to Clorox Disinfecting Wipes you can not get those here, unless you are willing to pay over a 100 on ebay.

Mm, looked for used ones but no luck there. I found one but they wanted far to much for it.

BTW, discoverd this yesterday. 4STARSCLEAN KIT. Has anybody used that?

And one wonders what 'magic' ingredient is in there that we have not tried.
It looks like it's got a cream (possible mild abrasive) & a spray. The price of €15 isn't so expensive.

Like the supplier I am in France so am prepared to be a guinea pig. I will order a kit & report back.

Thanks for posting Nigel. Do you have the same problem? Did you try other products?

I ask, see in the different posts people always report success with the product they use (see my list above) and it works for them. None of those worked for me so I wonder what is in it that works.

See there are also companies that offer to do it for you for over 100EUR or up to 200EUR. So they also must use something that we do not know about.

Anyway, look forward to hearing about your experience.

At this point I'd try some WD40... you said you tried Iso Alcohol? Was that 90%?

I removed mine completely using a paste of baking soda and water. It took probably 2 hours with a good amount of vigorous scrubbing but I got there in the end.

I did try the baking soda and water too. Removed a tiny bit but after working one spot for ± 20 minutes with no result I gave up on that too.

Just be careful in vigorously scrubbing on the screen to remove the anti-glare coating. If you scrub on the screen too hard you will crack it.
