I was looking on steam for some games and I saw stalker shadow of chernobyl priced at $19.99 and I was wondering if anyone has tried it. It got some mixed reviews with some people saying it's good and others saying it's bad. Also anyone know how it will preform on my iMac listed in my sig?

I can't comment on gameplay or your iMac, sorry but I've installed it on my Macbook same as in your sig and it runs fine. But it's a better card I believe.. is the x1600 only 128GB? Was thinking it was 256.. if 128 I'd say not, but I dunno.

the x1600 i have is the 128mb version, but there is a 256mb version. And good to know it runs well on the aluminum macbook because I am planning on putting bootcamp on mine :)

Yup np, I'm actually about to install Clear Sky and see how that goes. It's supposed to be better optimized kind of like how Crysis Warhead runs better than Crysis. So I'm fully expecting it to work..

THe game has lots of glitches, but it is fu anyway, it will probably work if you can manage to install it since when i tried installing it my macbook crashed

You'll get better performance on your MacBook. I can play on my 256 MB X1600, but only in static lighting which makes the game look about 8 years old. It's VERY poorly optimised, and still buggy. A weirdly compelling game though, if you get some community mods and patches.

I can't comment on how well it will run on your machine, but most of the glitches have been fixed with updates... although I'm not sure if the Steam version has those same updates, I'd check.

As for the game itself I like Shadow of Chernobyl more than Clear Sky since CS didn't really add that much new stuff, you repeat about 1/2 of the same maps. (the one main improvement was making weapons customizable, for coin) Graphically it's a little more polished, and Vista compatible, but Shadow I prefer as the respawn rates are not as high, and the enemies don't spam you with grenades like in CS. Definitely worth $20 probably one of the most atmospheric games that I've played.

hey, I installed it on my mbp 15" 2.16 x1600 128mb and it does play horribly on higher detail. For me, even on lower detail it's a little laggy. I wouldnt recommend it. Let us know how it goes if you get it.

It runs great on the MacBook, not great on my x1600 iMac. I like my games running smooth and to get this running nice I've had to set everything to low and at 1440x900 (less than native res).

It's a good game too.
