Starcraft 2 Choppy and just bad...need some help.

So I just bought a MBP 17 5i, 4gb of ram and I've been playing at highest resolution 1200, and on medium. The controls are very choppy, the mouse seems to accelerate if i move my mouse faster and I'm not happy at all with the performance.there anything I
I returned an HP ENVY 17 i7 quad core with 8gb of ram and 1gb of video ram which I could play on ultra no problem.

I am playing on mac os x because I don't have a new win7 cd code just an upgrade key. Is there anything I can do to fix this problem?

I'd be very happy to play on medium but it's frustating because I used to be top 10 in my diamond division and now I can barely play because I can't click things because of the choppiness.

I don't have your machine but it should be doing better than you describe. Here are my suggestions for what they are worth.

First, as you know already, performance under Windows is somewhat better. However the performance gap isn't as bad as it used to be, post the Graphics Update. So, make sure OSX is updated and you have used Software Update to get the Graphics Update as well if it's not already installed.

Second, obviously, make sure you aren't running anything in the background, torrenting Linux distros or what have you.

Third, experiment with your graphics settings. Set everything to low and just test how that performs. If you are still getting choppiness even at bare settings, something more serious is wrong. Otherwise, gradually step up settings and see where it dies on you. Note that shaders are performance killers, so leave that down.

Fourth, as you may already know, OSX doesn't offer the kind of control over mouse acceleration a gamer would like. There's no perfect solution for this, but if you really want the mouse to behave like a Windows mouse with pointer precision off an nil acceleration, you can try a product like USB Overdrive (now aging) or Steermouse. Myself, I have just started using Steermouse and it seems ok. Basically you install it, then set the acceleration to 0, and increase the DPI setting on your mouse to something suitable. (If you need more detailed info, let me know. I wrote it all down somewhere.)

Final thoughts - 4 GB should easily be enough. What graphics card do you have? It's a MBP so I presume it must be something halfway competant.

Hope some of this helps. There is no reason I can see why you shouldn't be getting playable performance on your machine.

Install the graphics update for 10.6. I also have a macbook pro i5 and playing sc2 in resolution 1440X900. i only keep the shaders option to minimum since its the only thing i found it affects the gameplay. Otherwise it runs perfect, also make sure in system preferences/energy saver, to have AUTOMATIC GRAPHICS SWITching: OFF. If your not using the power source it might try to switch to the less performance graphics card to increase battery life.

You should be fine... the graphics update for 10.6 did increase performance significantly.. and kill the shaders.
