StarCraft lag on mac created wireless network

Hello. Recently my friend Cass and I have been playing Starcraft with each other on our 5,3 MacBook Pros. To set up the game, I normally create a private network on my mac for cass to join. Lately, we have been experiencing lag, and alot of it. What could cause this lag, and how can we fix. I run 10.6 and he runs 10.5, though I don't think it would matter.
