Hi all,

when i play star craft on my 13inch macbook pro it has black lines on the side like it cant handle wide screen but on my acer pc it is fine. i have looked at the option's when you startup starcraft and that doesn't help there is no option in there that fixes the problem.

thank you

Starcraft is a 4:3 game, meaning it should be displayed with black bars to prevent distorting the image. What your other computer is doing is stretching the image. This results in the units looking "fatter" than normal, and also messes up mouse movement (left to right tracks further than up and down while moving the mouse the same speed).

The only way to have the Mac display Starcraft in widescreen is to change to a "Stretched" resolution in the display preference pane first. Starcraft runs at 640x480, so ultimately choosing 640x480 stretched would be the best option. However, I do not think this is selectable anymore in OS X, and the closest you can get is 800x600 stretched. Once a resolution of these has been chosen, load Starcraft holding down the Option key. At the option screen, enable the option "Don't switch resolution".

Provided you are using 640x480 stretched, no black bars will be present. If any other resolution is used, the image will be centred with a black frame appearing. Using the smaller resolution will mess up any desktop icon layout you have if the icons are pushed off the side.

If the black bars bug you that much you can always use 'command-m' to play in windowed mode.

The poster above is correct about it being a 4.3 ratio, back when it debuted there wasn't really any widescreen's most of us probably remember being lucky if we had a flat screen CRT display, but rest assured that SCII will have you covered for widescreen.
