A few people of here have suggested to upgrade to 3.0, but instead of restoring from your backup afterwards, to set up as a new iPhone(apparently speeds up iphone and is generally worth while doing so)

Does anyone normally do this, when they install new firmware? Is it really worth doing as you would have to write down all your numbers etc manually...

Can you not simply back up your contacts to Address Book and then sync through that after rather than through a backup? Not sure what the equivalent is if you are on Windows (don't have access to a PC), but I'm sure Apple have implemented something similar.

i clean installed 3.0 (by accident, ugh) so i lost all of my contacts, etc.
luckily im just a high school kid, so i got most of my number back by looking at my friends' address books. my 3.0 is noticeably faster than my JB 2.2.1 though.

Ok thanks, do you think it would be worth setting up as a new iPhone?

i really cannot say for sure. if you have a way to backup your contacts properly, then i'd say it's better to be safe than sorry. itunes will hold all of your apps.

also, win7 for the win! i've been on it since beta build 1, and i love it.

Yeah win7 is great, what vista should have been.

I need someway off backign up my photos/cyrecoder/notes/calender etc. But dont think there is a way of doing so :(

well cycorder you can just SSH the videos onto your computer with WinSCP or another similar program. you can do the same with your photos. im not sure about calendars and notes though.

YEah forgot to copy my vids of last time, which was a right pain! What else do I need to remove/add before I install 3.0? Ive not got categories installed btw

categories is the only thing i'm aware of.
if you want a percentage battery indicator in 3.0, make sure you have it in 2.2.1 JB before you upgrade. it should stay.
