Hi all,

I'm having issues booting up my late 2013 rMBP having turned it off this morning and now back on!

The boot screen gets to the end of the status but hangs and doesn't go any further.

I've booted into Verbose mode and it seems the boot up until this point:

I080211AWDLPeerManager : : setAwdlSuspendMode() Susoending AWDL , enterQuietMode(true)
I080211AWDLPeerManager : : setAwdlOperatingMode Setting the AWDL operating mode from AUTO to SUSPEND
I080211AWDLPeerManager : : setAwdlAutoMode Resuming AWDL

The above message hangs and cycles through in a loop.

I've reset the PRAM and SMC but with no luck. I've attached a photo of the verbose boot screen.

Any ideas greatly appreciated!

Can you boot to Safe Boot mode? Restart, holding the shift key, which will take you to a login screen, even if you normally login automatically. If you CAN boot to safe mode, try turning off your Wifi card (from the Wifi menu), then restart normally. If you get back to your desktop, turn the wifi card back on, then restart once more.
If you still can't boot normally - reinstall OS X. There may be other choices that don't involve reinstalling the system, but that should get you going again.

Yes I've tried Safe Mode but no luck

Will reinstalling OSX from the recovery partition wipe my data? I ask as I'm currently away from my backup and need my system for work!

Thanks!

I've now reinstalled from the recovery partition however it's still not playing ball. The boot still hangs. I have done First Aid on the HDD and all appears to be ok. Should I try and reinstall again?
[doublepost=1466926528][/doublepost]As a follow up, it now appears to be stuck on:

Waiting for DSMOS...

Any thoughts?

DS is "don't steal" – see for example Slow boot caused by "Waiting for DSMOS" – but during that waiting period (as seen in your photograph) other things may occur. In other words, don't focus solely on the DSMOS symptom.

When you start Recovery OS and use Disk Utility, is the S.M.A.R.T. status verified?

When you try to start OS X, how long do you wait with verbose mode showing no progress?

Hi all,

So, having wiped my rMBP and restore from a Time Capsule, I have just updated El Capitan and on reboot, exactly the same thing has happened! It's still stuck on:

I008211AWDLPeerManager::setAwdlAutoMode Resuming AWDL.

I've got a genius appointment next week, but am at a loss as to how to fix this?

Hi all,

Having just chatted to Apple Support and run through all different permutations suggested, I decided to try and see if it might be some extensions that might be causing the issue (which I should have done the first time). I ran the script suggested here: https://www.justinsilver.com/technology/os-x-el-capitan-10-11-1-hanging-on-boot-fixed/ and found a number of Kexts were pushed into the 'ExtentionsDisabled' folder that was created. Turns out hp_io_enabler_compound.kext was causing the issue.

Thanks!
