on my managers imac g3, running os9 once started up, it only stays at the "spining" icon (the very first thing that the os brings up). he's tried pulling the plug, and restarting it, tho i know that doesn't help.

isn't there a "soft" reset of somesort? or will he have to reinstall? i don't think he's backed up anything either, since thats the machine that holds EVERYTHING.

thanks much.

I've had that problem before. It was a stick of memory that had gone bad in the unit.

Has he added memory lately? You might try pulling a stick, and try different onces (power off first of course) and see if you can get it to boot with one of them gone. If so, there's your culprit...

Someone else here may have something else to try...

You may also want to try starting up the Mac while holding the shift key, this will boot up the Mac with extensions off. See if that let's it boot up correctly.
