Its not doing that chime when i press the power button, everything else is just fine, but for some reason the boot sound simply stopped playing... Should i be worried?

First, check your volume before you reboot and make sure it's not muted or turned all the way down. If that doesn't help, reset your NVRAM.

Lucky you! I had to install a utility in System Prefs (Startup Sound) to disable the %$# startup sound.

You don't need the Startup Sound preference pane to disable the startup sound. Just mute your speakers before you shut down or restart, and you won't hear any startup sound.
