Only just picked up on this but since mavericks I do not get the startup chime.

Normal or not ?

Do your internal speakers function? The startup chime will only come from the internal speaker in the tower, if that has become disconnected or has broken, it won't sound the chime for obvious reasons. Also, the chime sounds based on system volume. You can reset this by doing a PRAM reset (boot holding Command+Option+P+R).

PRAM reset did the trick, I always forget the resets, thanks.
