Startup has changed?

I would press power.
Disc drive kicks up brielfy to check if it needs to boot from disc.
Then the Mac sound would chime, then apple screen, circle of dots, progress bar, and up!

However, the sound has stopped at start up, no chime. Any ideas?

If you mute the sound before you shut down the chime will not sound during boot up.

Check if you machine is muted. I think if you mute your speaker when the system is awake, and then restart, the chine doesn't sound.
