Startup Issues

I have tried to follow the mac.com startup fixes but still no go.

When I try to start up - the spinning circle just stays there and it sounds as if the computer is reving like an engine - or recycling thru something.

When I try to boot from my CDROM drive - same thing happens.

When I try to boot in Safe Mode - It just tells me to reboot the computer.

When I try Single User Mode - it just lists a ton of stuff and then doesnt let me input anything.

So being pretty new to the Mac world I am at a loss - Any help or direction would be wonderful.

By the way I am running a new 20" iMac G5 - with the updated software - 10.3.9. Thanks again.

It would help us help you if you could post the last few lines of text that you see, as that would help diagnose what your computer is doing when it stops booting. Although you say you can't boot from the cd drive either... is this with an OS X disk? Try booting up with the hardware test and see if you can run it.

Single User Text lines

Ok here is what it says:

disk0s3: I/O error.
(repeated 13 times)
Time/Date stamp
disk0s3: I/O error. (3 more times)
Singleuser boot -- fsck not done
disk0s3: I/O error. (2 more times)
Root device is mounted read-only
disk0s3: I/O error. (2 more times)
If you want to make modifications to files,
disk0s3: I/O error. (2 more times)
run '/sbin/fsck -y' first then ' /sbin/mount -uw /'

Thats it and now the computer is just humming and not letting me input anything.

Try booting up with the hardware test and see if you can run it.

Would love to try but cant seem to get the os x disk out. Let me know how and I will put in the Hardware Disk.

press down the mouse button or hold the eject key on the keyboard while starting up and it should eject the disk.

EDIT: nevermind, saw you said you can't input anything. It sounds like you have a hardware error. The system is still covered under warranty, right? You should call AppleCare and/or go to your local retail store (if you've got one) to try to get it replaced.
