I'd like to do something very simple. I'd like to have a homekit controlled outlet switch mirror the state of the aTV. i.e. "On" when the aTV is awake, "Off" when the aTV is asleep.

You'd think that the automation plan for "An Accessory is Controlled" might fit the bill, but Home doesn't really consider an aTV to be an accessory.

This should be simple but I don't see anyway to accomplish this as Home stands now.

Nope, it's not possible with HomeKit right now. Currently HomeKit automation only works with HomeKit Accessory. Since Apple TV is not a HomeKit accessory, it's not possible to use state of it to trigger other actions.

Yeah, I had kind of figured that out but had hoped I was overlooking something.

So far HomeKit is really frustrating for me. I can see the potential, but it won't *quite* do what I want it to do. You know that the info and capability is there, but the Home app is just not well developed.

This all feels like a some sort after hours project that has somehow escaped to the public.

I suspect it will eventually be able to do the things I'd like it to do, but it's just somewhat disappointing to see something that obviously isn't quite ready for prime time as a released produce.

Yeah, it's sad the automation part is really basic right now and there are a lot possible integration with other Apple Devices which is not available. Hope we'll see improvements in the future :)

I assume you are looking for this to deal with fact that the apple TV still eventually turns off after 24-36 hours even when enabled to "never" I am looking for way to deal with that issue on apple TV before I even consider as the Home hub for now using my iPad Pro by default (and still learning on homekit as well)

No, I'm just looking to turn on an amplifier when the Apple TV is awake. Really basic stuff.

Putting aside the "awake" part, which doesn't necessarily track when the ATV would actually be in use, have you considered non-HomeKit solutions? For example, with a universal remote such as (but not limited to) the Logitech Harmony, it's pretty standard for an "activity" to turn on the ATV, turn on the TV, and turn on an amplifier, as well as adjusting basic parameters of each. Another possibility might be IFTT, depending on your setup.
