I'm sorry if this was already posted, but I just saw that a StatusNotifier has been released on Cydia! It does require Erica Utilities and Sqlite V3.

requies what??

I don't have none of those "requirements" installed, but it works wonderfully!!!

love it

Mine didn't work at first, so I did some research and found a post on modmyi.com that said that those are requirements:
http://www.modmyi.com/forums/iphone...er-email-sms-call-notifcation-status-bar.html My notifications then worked.

There was an update last night that describes Sqlite3 as one of the dependencies (for some reason it doesn't show up as being installed when I manage my packages in Cydia, but I know that I installed it yesterday).

It installs everything you need to run it when you install it, including winterboard.

Notifier vs StatusNotifier

I just noticed a new App on the Big Boss repository called Notifier - it seems to do the same thing as the StatusNotifier which was released earlier this week.. Does anyone know what the differences are? (Aside from the notification icons which seem different). Do they work the same way?

I like the StatusNotifier icons more, but I guess I have a higher trust level of apps that come from BigBoss.

Wouldn't this app be kind of useless since sms, voicemail and missed calls show up on the lock screen anyway? I'm not knocking it I'm just wondering if it has a use that I'm not seeing that the iphone doesn't do already other than notifying you of email while the phone is locked.

Big Boss's Notifier as i read on another forum uses a MobileSubstrate plugin, which does not use an extra daemon process running in the background (whether or not StatusNotifier uses a daemon i am not sure, but judging by the fact that StatusNotifier has SQlite and others as dependencies and Notifier doesn't, i would assume so).

So.. in english that means its better? :) (Not being sarcastic, I just don't know...) Does it save on battery that way or *should* result in less of a slowdown? (Not that I noticed mine being any slower with StatusNotifier).

No - its not useless at all - for me the best feature is the email notifier - if my phone is locked I don't need to unlock it to know if I have any emails - the little icon near the battery will tell me. Its also nice if I'm in another app and have vibrate and sounds off I can tell I have an email without having to close the app..

I would agree, given the description. However...Notifier's icons are HORRIBLE! I can't even tell what they are. I'm not picky about icons, but I'm going back to StatusNotifier until they get better ones, then I'll switch if Notifier really is easier on the battery.

Well, I removed StatusNotifier and went with Notify just to see if I noticed a difference.. Aside from the different icons heres the one thing I did notice was the mail icon dissappears alot faster. It seems like with StatusNotifier I had to re-scan all of my mailboxes before it would go away, with Notify(BigBoss) it seems to go instantly after a message has been read.

I don't know about the SMS icon - I use iBlacklist to filter my SMSes so that icon seems to have priority (which is great) so thats what I still see.

I don't get calls on my phone, they are also all filtered by iBlacklist to a busy signal so I can't test the icon or voicemail.

I would like to see a more distinct mail icon, but now that I know what it is I'm fine with it.. Once it gets the orange background its a little easier to see its an envelope.

You can replace Notifier's icons with the StatusNotifier ones. SSH into System\Library\CoreServices\SpringBoard.app\

Drop these icons in there. Enjoy :)

i am not currently jailbroken so i dont know......but can you make it so that it will tell you that you have a text message without actually displaying the preview message? i hate when im in an app or someone else is using my phone and my text pops up and displays the message for all to see. thanks

Thanks! That will be great! Unfortunately, I can't unzip this. Can anyone else?

Thanks for those. Far superior.

EDIT: To Geekmommy: Unarchiver did it fine. Archive Utility actually packed it up again instead of opening it for some reason.

He appears to have renamed a *.rar to *.zip, so just rename it to *.rar.

Anyway, yeah, Notifier > StatusNotifier by far. StatusNotifier does a TERRIBLE job keeping up with the notifications. Notifier is instantaneous.

Thanks, Ying Yang. Is that only a Mac utility? I couldn't find that it is available for Windows XP. I can't seem to find anything that works for me. Winzip and the default XP program don't work.

Never mind...General answered the question! Thanks, General!

And thanks again, jcde7ago, those icons are so much better!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5F136 Safari/525.20)

yeah sorry about that guys macrumors only allows zip files and not rars to be uploaded to just change it to .rar and unpack!

Here is a little bit different icon set for Notifier that I put together by mixing the default status notifier icons and the ones that were released as alternatives

Just extract the zip and then SSH into your phone and put the Notifier Icons.theme folder in '/private/var/stash/Themes' and then apply it with Winterboard.

I didn't make these icons, so if the author wants me to take them down please let me know and I will take them down promptly.

Notifier was updated...seems to make the damn iPhone announce itself with audio often after a message comes in. Can't figure out how to make it stop.

Edit: 20 seconds, in fact.

Yup. A chime and vibrate every 20 seconds, or so, until you read every new email! It's quite the pain!

I just emailed the author. Hopefully he fixes it soon!

I just uninstalled it because it was driving me nuts. There should be some way to incorporate the settings into BossPrefs...
