Stay with Yosemite vs Sierra + VMing Yosemite.

While I know a lot of folks are trying High Sierra, I'm wondering if anyone remembers back to the mists of time, dodging dinosaurs, and using Yosemite - I've resisted the upgrade on my 4,1-5,1 dual, but I'm thinking of going to it as Safari cloud tabs stopped working a while back after an iOS update.

So far - I've booted into a Sierra partition, it's showing my wifi / bluetooth upgrade as supporting handoff, etc. Photoshop & InDesign CS5 seem to work OK for my legacy workflows. Are there any reasons to not move to Sierra?

Also, any folks do much VMing of MacOS on your cMPs, and have recommendations for solutions - parallels, vmware, virtualbox etc?

I guess a big factor here is what do you like about yosemite that makes you want to stay with it and will you lose that if you upgrade. I can understand loving a particular operating system. I have a windows machine where I stayed with windows 7 for as long as I could.

Oh it's not that I'm particularly in love with Yosemite, just that the Yosemite to Sierra cutoff is one of those places where software seems to stop working if old, or start working if new, so looking out for any quirks or surprises that could happen.

That makes sense, in that case it depends on your software needs.

How about testing it on a clone of your boot drive?
That way you could know what works or doesn't.

In Sierra and El Capitan the "save as reduced size" command from Acrobat Pro doesn't work, except if you save the file on an USB stick. My printer doesn't work either (a Canon 540 Pixma). I had no problems with Yosemite. Unfortunately this system doesn't get anymore security updates and Metal is not supported.

well everything seems to be fine, apart from a hiccup with my original Yosemite install which had some bug that meant it couldn't access Bless, so couldn't reboot from the temp installer partition. But booting off a usb stick solved it, and the problem is gone from the upgraded OS.

Only issues really is that the Microsoft Intellimouse driver doesn't work (and hasn't been updated in geological eras), but I'd been meaning to look for an alternative, and USB Overdrive seems to do the job.
