steam download crawling

hey, just bought half life 2 off steam on my macbook pro (spring 2010 13inch)
and the download iss going really slowly, HL2 is downloading at about 90-100 kbs, and they other thing that comes with it HL2: lost coast is going about 20 kbs, i tried pausing the HL2:LC but HL2 stayed the same speed and my internet connection is like 7 mb/s and im close to the router and im connected wirlessly, is there anyway i can speed it up or am i doing something wrong?

If its a problem with Steam why are you posting it in the MacBook Pro forum ? You don't have a problem with your computer, you have a problem with your download.

There is already a Steam thread, you just need to search for 2 seconds.

More likely the bottle neck is at Steam's end. If you really want go and download a file from a big company like Apple who probably can max out your bandwidth with a download and see what speeds you get.

Yeah the steam servers are probably being smashed atm with the cheap buy

because this is the MACBOOK PRO forum and i thought it was a problem with my MACBOOK PRO because unlike my MACBOOK PRO my pc downloaded some games at normal speed on the same internet connection therefor i thought it was a problem with my MACBOOK PRO ok?

Calm down dude. It's just a forum – he isn't insulting your mother or anything. Steam's servers are probably getting hammered.
