Steam for Mac: screenshots and initial thoughts

Little bit of quick DYI research shows that Portal runs well. There are some reports of TF2 being available to beta testers but it's a little buggy.
 
anyone thats not in the closed can run the steam client (I am right now) if you can find it, its floating around so to speak ;)

I've been using it for at least a week

i'm not in the beta and also have a copy. to my surprise when i started steam up this evening, Portal AND TF2 were available for me to download. I'm still not in the beta, because i still have to got to the website to launch steam. try it

Nice find on the TF2, I have it DL'ing right now. We may not be able to launch them but at least we will have them installed and ready with itchy trigger fingers come May 12th :D
 
Oh my gosh TF2 native on Mac!! I am so excited, this is a triumphant moment for Mac games! I have been playing tf2 via crossover the past year and a half since I first bought it, can't wait to max the settings for it on my Mac Pro and 30"!!
 
It would be nice to see some benchmark comparisons with Portal on OS X versus Portal on Windows, if anyone is allowed to provide such information.

Take the windows frame rate and chop it in half. Then thank Apple for having sucky OpenGL drivers.

(I'm sure it won't be that bad, HL2 and Portal are pretty old. But after SC2's terrible performance it looks like I may not be able to play any new AAA games in OS X.)

Well, that's strange. Steam tells me that it's currently unavailable. It won't even let me install TF2, it says the servers are busy.

Maybe you are in the beta and just haven't checked your email in a long time. ;)

LOL, I'm sure many people wish that was the case - including myself
 
yea, i've been able to download portal. other games i have that show up as mac games won't let me down them. Last time i tried I wasn't able to play portal
