hey guys i know i have asked about this before and randomly it fixed idk how and it started working back a while ago, but when i just came back home from reading week i got the error when i click play tf2 it says its updating and says its validating steam cache files (0 of 1) and it gets to 100%
then nothing close it and does it all over again :(

If bandwidth isn't an issue, I would delete your local content and redownload TF2. A reinstall will redownload everything without (hopefully) whatever is causing your error.

In library, find Team Fortress 2, and right click. Then click on delete local content.

If bandwidth is an issue, I would head over to the official Steam forums. Because this sounds like something you'd be more likely to find assistance with there. But then again, here I am.

Try googling your problem before bugging the wrong community about it.
I had the same problem. It said:
validating files 100%
cache 0 files out of 1
tf2 file 1 out of 1 100%

And then it would remain at 100% for, as far as I know, hours.

I fixed the problem by going to TF2 > Properties > Local Files > Defragment Cache files

After the defragmenting (it took around 10 min I think), I pressed play, it did its thing, downloaded about 30 MB of data, and done. After that, I was able to play. Hope this helps others.

Mac OS 10.5.8

Edit: Although I'm pretty certain that the 30 MB was for the update and not related to this 'cache' problem.

If that doesn't work, try deleting your TF2 files and redownloading them.
