Hi all,

I am having issue with installing Steam onto my Mac.

I am able to download the 1.5MB installation set up file from Steam. I can launch the set up file by dragging the Steam icon to my Application folder. When i click the Steam icon, it brings up a window to say that it is updating - an update that is about 39MB. During this (usually near the end of updating), a window pop up and said 'Steam needs to be online to update, please check your connect'.

I am nearly 100% certain that it is not due to my internet connection, as i was on the net the entire time. Further, i have made 4 attempts to launch Steam and all failed with the same error message.

I have had a look at this issue on google. Some suggested that the solution is to delete certain file within the Steam folder. However, my problem is that i don't actually have any content within the Steam file nor within the Application Support folder.

Is there anyone who have had this issue as well?

Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem yesterday. I was installing onto a MPB with a wireless connection. I ended up connecting directly to the modem with an ethernet cable and the wireless switched off. It failed again the first time but it worked the second time. There are 2 updates that it installs - the 39MB one and then an 18MB one.

Hope that helps

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. After you have installed Steam, can you play games on it using Wifi connection thereafter?

Thanks

I haven't had a chance to download any games yet. My data cap at home is very small, so I need to download from somewhere with more data.

I will try next week and will let you know how I get on

I installed Left 4 Dead 2 and played sucessfully via wi-fi.

So no issues playing via wi-fi.
