Steamworks SDK v1.52 has been released, for which you may check the link below:

Release Notes include:

macOS
Added i386/x86_64/arm64 universal builds of libsdkencryptedappticket.dylib and libsteam_api.dylib

Does this, by any chance, mean that the Steam client itself will be published with universal binary? Or is it something totally different?

Steamwork is Steam's library that implements various features such as achievements, cloud saves, friend multiplayer discovery etc. This enables game developers to integrate Steam support directly into their native Apple Silicon titles. It's great news actually, since it allows the devs to ship native version of the games without limitations. I am sure there is a bunch of devs that were waiting just for it.

*Conspiracy theory mode on* It's funny that the support appears on the same day that Humankind got beta Mac support with the disclaimer that "M1 support is coming in a near future". Coincidence? You decide. All I can say is that Sega packs a punch when it comes to these kind of negotiations. *Conspiracy theory mode off*

To anticipate some questions:

- No, it has nothing to do with the Steam client itself. Frankly, it can stay on Intel for a while, there is no drawback from not having a native ARM version
- It was possible to make native ARM games even before Steamwork support (BG3 has a version for example), but if you wanted Steam integration you'd have to jump through a bunch of hoops

That is exactly what I anticipated, in fact. When I said Steam native support, that was all I was hoping for rather than the app itself. Thanks so much for the clarification ??

I quite like the conspiracy theory as it is alraedy mentioned on Humankind page:

"Note: The beta still does not work on M1 chips. However, future updates will fix this problem. We’ll let you know once Humankind is M1 compatible on Apple computers."

They already hinted that M1 compatibility could be in the official release ??
