i wasn’t sure the right forum to post this in.

I noticed recently that the step data in the Health app on my phone 8 is not in sync with the data from the activity app. Notably the step count in the activity app is higher. They are generally off by a few thousand steps.

Is this normal or is something wrong?

I have an Apple Watch and iPhone 8 if it matters.

Thanks

Under the motion setting in privacy by default the phone will constantly track steps itself even if you have an Apple Watch. I turned that setting off because I have an Apple Watch myself and only wanted the data that my watch tracks to be the only data well...being tracked.

I think (or thought I did) read that when you have an Apple Watch and phone with the motion processor, the OS sort of works with both data sources to determine your counts for the day. Like steps. Is that right?

No. It defaults to the Apple Watch only.

So if you have health manually using iPhone. Then health and activity will not be the same.
