Lol.

Apple is advertising the Air with stereo speakers.

Is this an upgrade? I heard the 2010 model came with a mono speaker.

:D

Last time I checked there was stereo speakers in the 2010 Macbook Airs. Even in the 11.6"

Wrong. The 2010 models did have stereo speakers, the prior ones did not.

To be honest I always thought my 11" was mono as there never seemed to be any degree of audio separation at all and just assumed that it got a mono speaker.

If it's true that it was stereo then I am shocked because you would honestly think you could hear stereo difference.

I hope the new model improves the quality in that case.

I'm not so much concerned with with the quality as I am loudness.

Are the speakers decent?

Previous MacBook Air 11 were very decent for an ultra-portable and they had reasonable volume and clarity but not much mid range or bass obviously. But as I said I always assumed mine was mono due to the quality (lack of any stereo indication whatsoever) though.

Quality is important to an extent, though.

First and foremost you want to be able to hear the speakers. Quality matters as far as clarity is concerned. If it plays loud, but the loudness causes the sound to be dulled out, then that's no good. So quality and loudness matter somewhat.

But once loudness is decent enough that you can hear it comfortably in a small room from anywhere... not being too loud... for me, it's all about quality. Obviously I don't expect any bass. But if mids/highs are at least somewhat enjoyable, it's nice. I have my own home speaker system for listening to music... but it's always a bonus when a device is better at one thing or another :D

And to answer a question above, yes, it's stereo now. That's why I posted this thread. I was asking if that's an improvement of this model, or if the previous model did it. It's on their website if you go to view the specifications: They are advertising "stereo sound".

hmm.. i seem to recall the site showing the 2010 Air as having stereo speakers as well.. even showed a pic of one with two sound waves coming on both sides.
