steve jobs and apple

we all know that steve is a huge force inside apple and indeed the computer industry. But how much does he actually do inside the company?
For example, does he over look everything from the choice of firewire on macbook to the spec of each computer?
does he come up with most of the new ideas at apple? like the app store and mobile me?
or is it a big team under him that comes up with most of the goods? if so i dont think anyone needs to worry about post-steve because there clearly is a great team behind him.

According to everything I've read about Jobs he was (I say 'was' just because of his recent leave of absence) an incredibly hands on and driving visionary force at Apple. Apple is *his* company and when he goes away it will leave a big hole. Is there enough talent at Apple to maintain the status quo if Jobs left tomorrow? I believe so. Is there someone at Apple that can be the intelligent, forceful visionary and charismatic salesman that Jobs is? Someone that can birth the next OS X, iPhone or iMac? Someone else that can create an RDF? I don't think so. People like Steve Jobs don't come by very often. IMO Jobs is the Walt Disney of Apple.

Yeah, without Steve, Apple is just another tech company. Steve could make a beautiful origami when he was handed a piece of paper (metaphorically speaking). The great people already at Apple can still make "paper", but they can't make it into an origami. Only Steve can.

TBH I'm actually looking forward to steve stepping down (which is inevitable and I think will be sooner rather than later). There's a solid base built and an amazing team of individuals in his shadow. I'm excited to see what the future holds with someone else at the reigns.

Jobs is known for micromanaging everything. And I'd say that that is his role. Just like nearly every company, I'm sure he sees things in their stages, but if he sees a problem, I imagine it is fixed very quickly.

From what I've gathered the whole feel of a mac is directly related to Jobs demands. He knows how he wants things to work.

I remember reading about his criteria for how the ipod interface should work. He DEMANDED that he should be able to get anywhere he wanted withing 5 clicks. Ease of use is what Job's specialty is. He may not be the one actually creating it, but he sure as hell guides it up until it meets his standards.

From what I've seen from the presenters in his absence, he has DEFFINATELY instilled this into the company's core.
