Knocking Live Video™ is the World’s First Broadcast App for iPhone

Pointy Heads Software, leading innovators in mobile-to-mobile sharing, have launched Knocking Live Video – the world’s first broadcast app – to the Apple iPhone. The application has been met with an overwhelming response and has been a topic of hot discussion after Steve Jobs personally intervened and approved the application after reading the impassioned email from Pointy Heads, Co-founder Brian Meehan.

So, what is unique about KnockingLive video?

[*]Knocking apps eliminate the ‘upload, send, download’ process, establishing live, device-to-device connectivity regardless of proximity or other barriers
[*] Knocking Live Video creates an instant, device-to-device connection allowing one iPhone user to broadcast live streaming video to another iPhone handset
[*] Knocking is direct, visual communication. Where mobile users once got a call, an e-mail, text or multimedia message, they now get a knock
[*] Existing video apps make the Internet both a boundary and enabler of “sharing”. Most require users to shoot video, render it small enough to be sent, then upload and transmit content using the Internet as another person waits for a lengthy download. Knocking Live Video makes eliminates that process, letting users broadcast moments directly from iPhone to iPhone, live.
[/LIST]
Knocking Live Video is available for download in the social networking category of the Apple app store today, free for the first 50,000 users.

How it Works
It’s simple. ‘Knock’, then share:

* Open Knocking Live Video Sharing
* Set up account
* Request and ‘Knock’ your friends
* Aim your camera

Re:Steve Jobs intervenes, approves Knocking streaming video app

Hi Peace,

Yes, due to the unprecedented demand, we are experiencing 'temporary' server side issues, which our technical team is working non-stop to resolve.

We completed a server update & easier & more reliable connections already. We are working around the clock. All feedback is also being integrated. Thank you for your patience.

Cheers

You should set something up similar to SKYPE and provide a test "call" type contact so people can load it up and before they add people or get someone to add them, they can test out the app. Dunno if that's possible - but would be a great way to demo the product anytime and anywhere

Any thoughts of when this app will be working again? I've told all my friends about it and we want to try it out.

Very cool app!! good job.
do you need to have the push notifications on for you to be notified when others are sending video? I always have it off, for battery life, so was wondering if i need it on for this app to really work?

thanks!:)

This app is absolutely awesome, when it works. The 2 times I've successfully entered a video call it force quit after about 20 seconds.

Advice: both devices should broadcast to eachother. There's no need for me to see what I'm looking at thru my own camera.

The program is buggy as hell right now, rarely connecting. When it does, it drops out after 20 seconds. Needs an update very soon for me to rate 5 stars.

Hi Guys,

Thank you all for your feedback. Yes, there has been an overwhelming response to the application and there have been initial temporary connectivity issues due to the load on the servers. However we completed a server update & easier & more reliable connections already. We are working around the clock to resolve the rest.

Please do check out http://knockinglive.com/demos/ to understand how to use the application.

Also, do engage with us at http://twitter.com/KnockingLive and http://www.facebook.com/KnockingLive for latest updates.

cool app, i'm excited with the app ... but...
anyone having any GOOD luck with this app yet in the last couple of weeks?

i've gotten it to work once yesterday just messing around with it....(can't wait till it gets consistent pretty cool)

anyone try the uStream broadcast live app out for this? is it possible with uStream to go iphone to iphone?

Awesome app. I tried this out at a party last night, and although it only lasted about 20 seconds we were all impressed.
Great start here! A whole new level of communication.

I couldn't figure out why friend requests don't work. I don't even have that as a category. Both phones lack this so we can't connect to each other.

I assume this is because our phones are jailbroken. Yes? That would be a shame.

what's this crap about "does not support jailbroken iPhones?"

Oh well, this isn't calling my name anyway, so I'll keep buying the apps that don't care whether I wanted to theme my 3GS so bad I jailbroke it. And thanks for assuming that because I like to customize or ssh into my iPhone that I'm stealing apps too.

PS, you have to do more than just jailbreak to get stolen apps to work.

+1

OP...bad form

Many jailbreak but have no intention of stealing any apps

It's a free app so I don't think it's an issue with piracy. There's probably some technical issue that's difficult for them to fix/reproduce.

Edit: App Store link to the app I believe the OP is referencing: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/id335489392?mt=8

Good point, I didn't even look close enough to realize it was free. But I can't imagine what technical reason their app would fail because it was jailbroken. Perhaps this is only said so that they can avoid blame if the app is acting up on a jailbroken phone.

NP. There are definitely technical reasons. For example, JB phones sometimes have problems w/ StoreKit. A user helped us by explaining how to work around it on our support forums and other JB users confirmed the fix.

We have had other negative experiences along the same lines but since they occurred months ago, the problems may have been resolved (push related stuff).

I say that but I've had 2 JB users (out of thousands of total users on Blipr) tell me that they can send but not receive blips. However, in our server log, I can see their notifications being sent to Apple. Apple's APNS stuff is reasonably solid and I know we're sending the notifications properly so the only thing I can figure is some odd case of mistaken identity. To make matters worse, their significant others (in both cases!) could send and receive blips on their JB iPhones.

It can be pretty tough to support with the limited information folks are able to send us. There's only so much one can tell by observing behavior or seeing a cryptic error message that's probably tripped by something entirely unrelated. We do our best to "unofficially" support JB users of our apps but sometimes we simply have no clue what's causing certain strange problems.

I'm not sure what the issue is with this app and JB (or if there is one at all). :)

this app used to not work on version 1.0 but since the new update this app works great now and i'm on a jailbroken 3g and it works fine now.

i was able to send my friend in florida a video of the snow we got last week here in nj.

he then had to send me a video of the nice weather he enjoys down in fl
