... by not adding a webcam in the iPad.

I would have bought one of these for each member of my immediate family (plus accessories), including the best model for myself. Being always on the go, this would have been an AWESOME way to keep in touch with family regardless of the lack of other features people on this board are complaining about (i.e. flash, multi-task, etc). I can absorb the loss of all those features, but not the webcam. Even the most sub-standard netbooks have them, so I don't understand the difficulty of adding it in the iPad? It would have eliminated my final need of a netbook, yet still been smack in the middle between the iPhone/iPod Touch and MacBook product line.

I had my credit card ready to pre-order multiple iPads on the day of the announcement in case they had been available. Unfortunately, I will no longer be in the market for this product even though I was truly looking forward to it during its unveiling.

Being a devout Apple customer (three different iPhone models, two different iPod touch models, one 27" iMac, and two MacBook Pros), I was looking forward to adding the iPad in my Apple family. It's a shame it won't be a part of it till a webcam gets added into the device.

Steve Jobs, you hurt my feelings! :( :(

Did getting it out make you feel better? You're full of crap. You will buy it and you know you will.

I told myself I wouldn't buy one, and for the first time ever.. I was disappointed enough in Apple to follow-through with this decision. Even if somehow I did end up with one, multiple sales of this device in my family won't happen due to lack of the webcam.

I could have accepted all its flaws as long as it runs smoothly and has a webcam.

And I didn't write this out in a post to hate on Apple, because I love Apple products. I wrote it out hoping someone from Apple will listen, and actually implement atleast the most premium iPad with this webcam feature.

You really think a webcam is that important? I have one on my macbook and imac which I rarely use. For me the lack of multitasking sucks, but thats a software issue and will fix that with either jailbreak or OS4.

For all the college students who are away from family, or people who travel away from home for business trips, this would have been the ideal solution to getting rid of their netbook in entirety when traveling. I understand not everyone uses it, but it would have been a wonderful option for the crowd this was directed at. It's better to have it there if needed, than not have it at all. And if it was going to cause such a big price difference, they could have just added it on certain models since there are 6 different models to choose from.

You, as well as the rest of the whiners don't get it...it's not supposed to be a stand alone computer as a netbook. You have your primary computer with which you synch, and the iPad to sit on the couch or crapper and do 98% of what people do (internet surf, simple iWork docs, view media, email).

To successfully videochat, you would need a better processor, better battery, and the ability to hold the darn thing at an awkward angle really steady. Perhaps in the future...but not in 2010.

I agree with everything you just said. Apple made this figuring most already had a laptop with a camera. You start adding all the bells and whistles and it drives the price up into Macbook territory.

It has a dock, and other third party companies could easily make stands or cases that allow the angling to be okay. And if I am video conferencing for a few minutes each day just to talk to family, I don't mind holding it with both hands as I talk. It would be sort of cool, holding my family in my hands as I speak to them.

Secondly, other companies have come out with webcams on their devices using the similar spec processors and memory. Their battery life is still approximately 8-12 hours. It's not like people are going to webcam all 10 hours. And even if they wanted to, they could plug it in at a coffee shop or wherever there is a wifi connection and be on webcam as it charges.

When has Apple exactly cared for crippling down the products to get the price down? I thought they were about innovation and perfection... no matter what it costs. Steve Job himself has stated this many times. I guess that makes him a liar or a turncoat!

They have taken a really bad direction with this iPad. Hope they´ll get their act back together soon.

Dear amitdoc,

I sincerely apologize for hurting your feelings. We are going back to the drawing board with this device because Jesus wrote us an open letter. The project teams are scrambling as we speak to get these features added for you and others that have expressed dismay. My only remaining question for the community members that are addressing us directly is: do you want fries with that, and mayo or hold the mayo?? We make to order.

Sincerely,
Steve Jobs

We get it! It´s not a standalone computer! We get it alright!

But you apologists just don´t get one key thing. For this sole reason this device just plain sucks!

Who needs a toilet web browsing toy? Especially when we already have iPhones and iPod Touches. What we needed was a full OS X tablet computer. Not a toy like this!

First, I am anything BUT an apologist
Second, While I love my iPhone - I really dislike web browsing and reading email on a tiny screen.

my iPhone - Swiss Army Knife phone/web/email/game/movie ON THE ROAD
my potential iPad - Swiss Army Knife phone/web/email/game/movie/iWork at home (or with the appropriate new app at my office)
my MacPro - for my serious work

Why would I want an iPad with a custom made processor chip that "screams" and can only do one thing at a time? I mean come on Steve. Multitasking should be a no-brainer on this device.
