Cali baby!
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/apples-new-thing-ipod.500/

i found this while pondering around the site. it's the original thread announcing the original iPod. Look at people's reactions!

normally i wouldn't waste a thread sharing something (somewhat) pointless like this, but reading the thread is just too funny!

7 years ago people were acting JUST LIKE US about apple announcements! some people are excited, many people complain about the price, and most of all people get MAD!

look how bummed some folks got "i wish apple would just update their crap servers instead of toys like this" "LOL yeah this will NEVER take off".

I think it just goes to show that you shouldn't let pessimistic forums trolls ever dampen your day-- they were wrong about the iPod, they'll be wrong again!

Wait. Did you just admit to being a pessimistic forum troll? This is a real coming-of-age revelation.;)

Magical. I've always said that I'm a pessimist. Unfortunately, I still get my imagined specs correct.

Shows you how Apple thinks, doesn't it?

Finally he admits it!
It's just too bad he changed his 'tar. It's a bit harder to know which posts to ignore now...

There's an "Ignore all posts" feature if you're really that bothered.

Too bad that we're usually right. :(

What in particular do you believe we are wrong about?

well besides the fact that you complain everytime apple doesnt update the one piece of hardware you want, idk. how many people complained about the imac needing an update? or the MBP? and they got it. you just have to wait your turn, and be happy.

neways, back then that was that best out, and everyone complained because they wanted their stuff updated. but if apple just updates we get nothing new or revolutionary.

Define... time, because the normal definition doesn't work in this circumstance.

Apple can't update without processors existing, and I don't recall being mad at Apple for not updating a product that they can't update.

That's like saying that because they complained, they got the update. It was going to be updated either way.

Yep, seen it before. I lol every time I look at it.
When I first saw the title of this thread I thought you were dissing on Steve so I was going to start a major flame war against you.:p

About the argument going on, Tallest Skil is a cool buy but he post in almost every thread known to man. Sometimes his post are helpful, and other times it's just straight to the point without an explanation or anything. He probably just post whenever he sees the need to help out or contribute as much as he can, as do I.

It's the Forum Spy doing me in, I'll tell you. :D I love that thing.

But you're right. I thought the point was: If you can help the person with their problem, you should help the person with their problem, instead of leaving them to flounder.

I'd still love to discuss what the OP thinks that we think won't take off in this day and age, as we know from experience that the products Apple makes seems to create their own niches.

Yeah i saw that a few months back, i just laughed as i read it. Maybe when apple releases a new product and we all think it will be a massive flop, people will laugh at us in a few years.

I'm thinking it will be close to the name of, "Macbook Air"....Maybe?

The thing is tallest, there's a separation of those that know and those that choose not to know.

I think many of Apple's products will be just like that. The iPhone, Air, laptops with just two USB ports for $1300 etc.

Like what was said, Apple will just continue to make products that forge their own niche, or continue using their superior marketing to convince robot shoppers and suburbanites to buy whatever shiney new toy Apple has to offer.

It's funny when reading that ancient thread, that there are people complaining about Apple's poor server lineup back then. Now it's grown to the desktop and pro laptop lineup. It seems that Apple is concentrating more on toys, iPods, and iPhones than computers.

Dead on. :(

The hardest part will be going from Vice President of Hardware Engineering to C.E.O. :p

No it won't, I know a guy that works for Apple retail at my paper and he can't stand it.

He says the only thing you gotta do there to move up is drink the Apple Kool-Aid on a daily basis for two reason:

1) To of course be in the right cult mindset of everyone else.

and

2) To wash the taste of $h!t out of your mouth from all the @$$ kissing you have to do to move ahead.

Given the right amount of both, especially your ability to resist the Kool-Aid, you might just make it to C.E.O. shortly after graduation. When that happens though, remember us little guys and gals that use your tools by making us a REAL desktop replacement....

Oh hurry up and graduate, I can't wait! :D

The best part is, once I'm C.E.O.... well, heck, once I'm Vice President of Hardware Engineering, guess who will be the one in charge of MAKING the Kool-Aid?

Me.

First thing I'll say?

"Back to formula.":D
