In the 1980s when Raskin, Atkinson, Smith and the rest of the geniuses at Bandley 3 were designing the Macintosh, Steve Jobs had a stroke of industrial design genius. So persuasive was his argument for this simple yet elegant little detail that it pervaded every aspect of Apple design throughout a good portion of the company's history.
Steve insisted that the Mac have the ability to display what he called round rectangles... Straight lines with tightly curved edges. The team wasnt quite sure what he meant. So he pointed to a table and other industrial designs, saying, "Round rectangles are everywhere!"
However, not until now has this design mantra, coined by Steve himself, manifest so literally.
