Sticker damage macbook finish??? Homemade cling/sticker cover???

I am looking into getting something to protect my macbook. I know of the clear protectors but I feel that they may make it look cheesy and I worry that when applying them the sliding around to align it and such will scratch it even if it is just lightly. So I am thinking of something like a sticker. I was thinking of macstyles but they don't protect the lid completely as the "voice" part is cutout I think and it doesn't cover the lid all the way down the sides.

So I have been looking into the just getting vinyl myself and just cutting it to fit. The vinyl I see though usually says permanent. I imagine that would probably damage the outside pretty badly? Something like a cling would be nice just press it and it would stick? Anyone know of where to order such a thing? Has anyone made a protective sticker/cling thing themselves at home?

What about something that kind of shrink wraps to it. Like with a tiny bit of heat from a hair dryer(tiny bit of heat or course) that would be nice I think.

Basically you're talking about laminating your MacBook. C'mon, that's just flat out whacky! Just get a coolshield and be done with it. And get some kind of a suitcase for it too.

Go with Invisible Shield over at ShieldZone.com.

I've used their stuff for my digital cameras and iPod, and it's impressively resilient while not standing out. There's no way it could scratch your MacBook as the shields are somewhat soft and flexible, and you spray it with moisture before applying. It's easy to put on, but it's hard to take off so do it right!

I picture it putting little scratches all over it when making the small adjustments to line it up. I may go with one I'm not sure.

This dang thing now is starting to lose its connection to my access point. Previous macbook had no problem keeping a connection to the same exact access point. It seems to happen about once every 2 days.

Why wouldn't you want one? They're very nice and protect the screen, which just so happens to be the most expensive part of a notebook computer.

Invisible shields don't scratch things. They sit on a layer of liquid (basically very slightly soapy water) as you position them, then you push the liquid out and the adhesive hardens.

I think you're picturing the invisible shield as a tough piece of clear plastic. It is not anything like that.

The invisible shield is like a clear, soft vinyl sticker. There's no way it can scratch your mac book.

MACDRIVE I just don't really find that product compelling. I actually would hate to take it on and off constantly, plus even if it is super soft taking it on and off over and over is a great way to put scratches all over the macbook's frail white plastic especially if there is even just a couple of pieces of dirt present on either the sleeve thing or the macbook's top.

I went ahead and ordered a full body cover from bestskinsever after reading really good things about them on other products forums. Same stuff as shieldzone but some liked the cuts BSE chose better. I guess I'll just make sure the macbook is really clean before I apply it and I'll steam up the bathroom to get rid of dust in the air(I'll let the steam dissipate before I bring in the macbook of course)

It's cool you found something that works for you, but why would you need to ever remove it. Once it is in place your golden. No stratches, problem solved.
