Have I got it wrong, why won't my stickies stay on screen when I shut down and later restart? Can stickies do this (it would surely be good if reminders etc didn't disappear. If so, what am I doing wrong!

I don't really use the Stickies app myself so I'm not sure how those work; I tend to use the stickies via Dashboard's widget-- those do stick around even after shutdown/ restarts. :)

You can start stickies automatically at startup/login the same way you start any other program.

When it's running, control-click (or press-and-hold) on its icon in the Dock. Select "Open at Login" from the menu.

Alternatively, open System Preferences. Click Accounts. Click the Login Items tab. Drag the icon into the list.

As stickies are an application, they will shut down when your computer shuts down. However, you can add applications to your list of start up items, and so hopefully they'd relaunch when you restart.

D'oh - I'm slower than you portent! :D

I think bingee is talking about getting a specific note to stay saved and on the screen-- not just keeping an app open, am I right?

I'm not sure, but doesn't Stickies save the notes when it closes and reopen them when it opens?

Don't Stickies persists over an application relaunch? Mine have been up for weeks, but then I can't remember if my computer has been turned off in that time.

Edit: Yeah. Quitting the app and relaunching it leaves my stickies intact.

Dunno, let's see... :p

:edit: Yup. At least my app had saved a really really old stickie :D

Actually, when you attempt to close a stickie (i'll assume it does the same for if the app is going to quit) it throws out a warning:

Heh! I made one specially. :p And it worked. :D So, bingee, if you add it to your startup items as portent described, it should reopen every time you restart.

How do I add stickies to my start up items?

Thanks for all the help, it's fustrating having accrued all the knowledge for the other operating system (forgotten its name already) and will take time to be as profficient on a Mac.

Hmm, drag the Stickies icon (from the Apps folder) into your Dock. Then right-click (or Ctrl-Click if you're using a one-button mouse) that said icon: it should display a little window, select, "Open at Login." Hope that helps.

Don't worry, it gets easier as time goes on. Just think, you could have been trying to go the other way which is about 8237482374823 times harder...:D

Actually, when you quit it saves all your stickies without asking. Closing one it like getting rid of it.
