Sticky PB trackpad...

OK, this is starting to bug me.

When I touch the trackpad on my 12" pb after the screensaver has kicked in, it moves very slowly for the first few seconds (like its taking longer to wake up). Lately, its been happening at random while I'm using the computer.

Anyone have any ideas or have a similar issue?

(This is a new to me, 11mo old 12" powerbook 1.5, 1.25gb, combo drive model).

Could your fingers be damp/wet? Mine'll slow down if my fingers are a little bit wet. Using the trackpad for a few seconds might be enough to dry them off.

Don't think that's it. It happens pretty regularly upon "wake up" (after screensaver though, not after sleep), so I don't think my fingers would be damp every time.

i had similar symptoms.

according to apple, my trackpad had to be replaced. to replace the trackpad, the whole "top" (excluding keyboard), had to be replaced too.

now, everything is ok. consult your nearest apple store or contact apple.

i know for a fact, that this is not an isolated incident.

That seems a bit extreme. It really bugs that much? I was expecting this thread to be about the trackpad being physically sticky.

If you bought AppleCare, they'll do it for free. I don't know what it will cost if you don't.

i'm not sure whether this is necessary in this case, as at the time apple were replacing all the units without fuss, and i think it may be a similar situation to the ibook logic board thing, i can't be sure though. this was a big issue for me before buying my 12in powerbook, although i have had no problems.

I'm not going to mess with a replacement for the time being. I do plan to get applecare before my warranty runs out, so if the issue gets worse I'll deal with it then. For the time being, its not that much of a bother, more of a minor annoyance.

This is VERY common with the new "scrolling" trackpads. You can quick fix it by placing your palm on the entire pad, this resets it. But you should get it fixed by Apple, though i dobt it will really fix it. I am on my second trackpad and it still does this. Granted, it does it a LOT less than my original.

I get the same problem whenever I log out and log back in. Thankfully I rarely do that so I rarely have to deal with the problem. I usually just put my iBook to sleep or on the rare occasion turn it off. I rarely ever log out of my account.
