iPod Sticky substance on iPod Classic?

When I received my Black iPod Classic, I noticed a sticky substance near the edge of the iPod, between the screen and click wheel. I assumed it was used to hold the plastic wrapper onto the device (it came off easily with a little bit of rubbing and iKlear). Did anyone else have this experience?
