Hey,

don't want to beat this to death, but i've set up my mail account in this fashion:

gmail forwards all mail to aol... (done through internet interface)

... aol sends from gmail's server (done through mail.app interface)

i sync iphone with itunes and tell it to use the aol imap account...

and i still get my sent messages in my inbox??

any suggestions?

thanks,
r.

It's this step right here. Whenever you send a message *through* Google, AFAIK, it comes back to your inbox. If I send messages outgoing through Google on my Blackberry, it also comes back to my inbox.

I take it you're doing this step so that you can still appear to send outgoing messages via Google? Have you tried using an ISP SMTP server for the account in mail.app (and perhaps cwmx.com from AT&T on the iPhone) instead of using Google?

notes about my mail setup:

-in mail.app, i only put my gmail account 'offline', i didn't erase the account completely... (so i can still view my old gmails), however in mail.app pref's, there is still a check next to 'enable this account'? and when it is unchecked, i can't view all my sent messages???

i do want to appear that i'm sending through gmail, yes...

and what is ISM SMTP? what does it do?

before, i wrote a rule in gmail's internet interface, saying mail from me delete. could i say 'mail from me skip inbox'?

Sorry, ISP SMTP server. If you send your outgoing GMail through someone else's server besides Google's, you will not get bounce-back inbox copies.

As for the rule, no, I don't think there's a way you can do that. In my mail.app, I have a rule sending them all to a sent mail archive folder, but I suspect that, even if your Mac was on all the time with Mail running, it still would not prevent them from showing up on your iPhone.
