Just wondering who else was holding onto their iPad Pro 11 instead of upgrading.

I've had mine for 3 and a half years now. The new iPad Air is tempting BUT given the software limitations imho having an M1 processor doesn't really matter. One thing I noticed is the iPad Air screen nits is 500 and my 2018 iPad Pro screen nits is 600. If they had made the screen nits on the iPad Air 800 nits that alone would have made me upgrade. I use my iPad outside a lot so that would be helpful. Supposedly the iPad Pro next year is going to have a better screen but it's going to be expensive....so as of now I'm looking at keeping my iPad Pro like 5 years or so which is a record for me when it comes to electronics. Just wondering if anyone else is thinking the same as myself or has a differing opinion.

Sounds like a good plan. Use it till it either slows to a crawl or doesn’t receive updates anymore.

I think your device is great, at least until there will be iPadOS features or software that require more RAM. That’s where the 2018 will start to show its age but so far that’s not the case yet

If I didn’t decide I wanted the bigger screen I’d absolutely have stuck with the 11 inch

I'm wondering exactly the same thing. My iPad Pro 2018 is still ostensibly fine, I think the battery is starting to drop off a bit though. I don't think I need any of the 2021 Pro features but haven't found a comparison review of the 2018 Pro vs the 2022 M1 Air which would fit the bill I think.

Same. I currently plan to hold on to my 2018 11” iPad Pro until it gives out or until a more compelling upgrade comes along.

If I had wanted the M1 that badly, I would have bought the refreshed iPad Pro last year, so this new iPad Air doesn’t entice me in the least.

I have the same one as you but I think the battery is starting to show its usage I keep thinking should I upgrade now knowing that a new model could come out next month. I dunno. I keep waffling.

I came here because of this post to see what everyone was saying.

Paid battery service might be a cheap way to continue with this model for another few years.

After launch day, I tried the 12.9 inch but came back to the 11 inch, which I’m typing on at the moment.

I’ve considered upgrading, but at this point it doesn’t seem feasible to go with the 11 Pro anymore with the advances on the Air. So I’ll either go with it (and probably regret it) or try the 12.9 again. At this point, though, I‘m sticking with the 11 Pro as long as I can.

I did try 12.9 when it came out originally but yea it just seemed way too big. I went back to 11” which works well.

I generally don't sell my older iPads pro, I just buy an additional one if I have a good reason to. And I have no good reason to buy one in the foreseable future.
The 2018 will very likely never slow to a crawl and probably will not slow at all during its life (slowdowns are due to lack of RAM, for now only 2GB devices have started to slow down, it will take years before 4GB devices do, 3GB ones might start to slow down in a couple of years though, and by the time 4GB are next we should be past the last OS upgrade for the 2018 pro, having said that reloads will increase).
I expect it to be updated at least till iPadOS 20 in 2026 (8 years) if not 1-2 years more. And I'll keep using it for something for several years after the last update (it generally takes around 5 years from the last upgrade before a significant numbers of apps stop working), regardless of the devices I'll have bought in the meantime.
I'll probably do a battery service once the battery gets to a level where Apple accepts to service it.

Same here feel bad for the people who blew it on an 8GB M1 iPad Pro, when a 4GB 3 year old A12X does everything just as well.

I have always upgraded my iPad every 2 - 3 years, not that it necessarily needed to be upgraded, just wanted something new. And I justified it by handing the old one down to my husband (who doesn’t care if he has the latest and greatest). But I’m finding myself not eager to replace my 2018 11” IPP. Maybe there will be something in the 2022 Pro that changes my mind, but really, the Air would do all I need, if I could adjust to Touch ID. Or I might end up just buying my husband a basic iPad, if the 9.7” Pro he’s using poops out :).

Didn’t you just post this a while ago?

I’m considering upgrading to the M2 11” iPad Pro when Apple announces it. What do you guys think an old 2018 11” 64GB iPad Pro is worth ?
it’s now pretty useless and old with just 4GB RAM and the A12X CPU which bested by a Qualcomm SD 8 Gen 1.

I am in the same boat, I don't feel at all the need to upgrade. Plus, I love Face ID on the iPP and I am not sure I could handle the Touch ID on the iPad Air. I am curious to see what they come up with for the 2022 iPP (if there is one), the screen and battery would be the only reason for me to upgrade at the moment :)

Same here. Nothing they've done since 2018 has been worth it in the iPad Pro department. The 2020 update was a joke (who uses an iPad camera?) and sticking an M1 in it is overkill for iPadOS. Mini Led is good but I don't want a 12.9 inch size.

I can see holding onto this for a couple more years at least yet.

Same here, keeping my 2018 Pro, I at least want the XDR screen before even considering replacing this iPad. My battery is still really good too.
