I have been keeping an eye on iPad pricing since the launch event as I was contemplating picking up hopefully a discounted Air 3 or a ridiculously low priced 7th gen for the Mrs.
Yet for some reason we still have no discounts, then to top it off I see stuff like this in Argos where the 7th gen is more expensive than the 8th!
What are these retailers playing at?

Even if it were to be Black Friday, UK retailers do not treat it as 'Black Friday' but just your ordinary discount day. Last year and the years before that, stuff that customers wanted were only reduced by 10% or 15%, 20% at the max BUT stuff that customers did not want or was end of line stuff soon to be discontinued was heavily reduced. I remember Asda and Tesco's discounting a range of their LCD televisions for as much as 60%-70%

As for discount pricing on ipads, don't hold your breath. UK retailers will keep at top price for a very long time until it becomes and end of line model which then you will seen the price dropping.

Hmm, in what way is the Gold 8th gen being sold at the full RRP a "special offer"?
Argos must think its customers are complete mugs.

I noticed this on Argos yesterday! Daft if you ask me. The 7th gen should definitely be the cheaper of the two.

The problem is it’s not just Argos.

The only place so far with any form of discount is Curry’s with the 7th gen at £299, which in my mind isn’t a big enough discount to make it attractive.

It's no wonder, then, that they (Argos) are still selling the 2017 iPad Pros with ridiculously little discounted clearance prices (and no wonder why they are still in stock).

From the links that have been provided, notice how each retailer has exactly the same price for the older ipad. Neither retailers is trying to intice their customers with deals on the older ipad. You would normally expect one of them to have a slight price difference but nope, ALL have them at the same price. I think there is some underhanded pricing going on, retailers working together to keep the prices high and the same so none of them try to out do each other on price differences.

That ‘offer’ on Jacamo with the 2019 ipad 32gb models having 10% off from £389 to £349 is an absolute joke (borderline fraud?). Like others have said on this thread, these UK tech retailers really do think we are complete mugs. Maybe they think as we are still under lockdown technically, the great british public will just pay the prices for ipads as we need them at home?

Edit- also nothing on amazon uk, where we could get maybe 15-20 off.

The Jacamo thing seems to be on all Apple products, a overinflated price and then ‘reduced’ to RRP.
I purchased some iPad accessories from them a few weeks ago with the same ‘reduction’ purely as the pricing was the same elsewhere and I wouldn’t have to pay until after student finance arrived in my bank account.

Oh yes i forgot that UK retail trick where they sell something overinflated for a week, and then can legally sell it later at RRP price and claim thats its reduced or a special offer.

One good thing though is that Apple have lowered UK prices very slightly like the base ipad now being £329, and the apple watch 6 at £379 (about £20 Off previous gen price). Hopefully the iphones should get a similar price drop like £699 for the iphone 12, instead of £729 like it was for iphone 11.

Actually, retailers cannot use that ploy as it's against trading laws. Sales and 'special offer's' are heavily regulated in the UK. It is against the law to sell something at RRP claiming it is a 'special offer' or 'on sale' because the retailer marked the price up higher previously and then reduced it to RRP.

Thats what i thought, but as you can see this is exactly what Argos and Jacamo are doing right now on their sites!

Argos always seem stick to whatever Apple’s price of the iPad was. Hopefully, as Apple have lowered the base price, no one will pay £349 and end up with a 7th Gen as they should gravitate towards the cheapest price.

When the iPod Touch updated last year, they were also selling the new and the old gen at the same price, even though the old gen was imminently to be dropped from support by Apple. Before the Mini 5 launched and people posted on the Q&A section asking what year the Mini 4 was, they said it was a 2018 model!
