When is this coming? I'm really disappointed that Apple didn't talk about the Apple TV at all today but more annoyed that we STILL don't get access to our movies in the cloud.

I know the same happened with TV shows, but we did eventually get them. Can anyone remember how long it took from when they were released in the US for it to become available over here?

Once TV shows came to the cloud, I started rebuying the program's I already owned so that I didn't have to store them on my Mac, hoping to do the same with movies when they become available...

Also what's the deal with very few movies being available to buy in HD, yet literally everything is available to rent in HD on the apple tv? Makes no sense. The price is way too steep also

Yeah, the lack of consistancy with regards to HD and SD on Apple TV, iTunes, Buy and Rent is really confusing.

The other day I wanted to watch a film on Apple TV, but wanted to buy it instead of rent it.

It didn't appear on my ATV, but it was available to buy in SD on the iPad. I was fine with SD, as it was an 80's set found footage film anyway.

So I buy it on my iPad, airplay it to the Apple TV and get "This Apple TV is not Authorized to play this content.".

So I went and rented it on Playstation instead.

What get's me is that SD and HD are still sold separately. Just let me buy the film, and give me the best resolution for the device I am using!

Hi all,

Does this mean to use an apple TV i will need a computer with itunes running to stream my content? I'm getting my first apple device other than a phone (ipad) next week and was looking to go from physical media to itunes media and have it accessible from my new ipad and after hearing about it, apple TV.

My understanding of apple TV was that it connected to the internet and accessed my itunes account and let me stream purchases to the Tv through the cloud, is this not possible?

If i was to have a US itunes account, would i be able to switch user ids on my apple tv/ipad to access the tv shows on the us account? In that case could i stream from the cloud? (eg Game of thrones)

Sorry for the wall of text.

Hi Walshy,

At the moment, in the UK, you can only stream TV shows that you have purchased through iTunes but not movies.

If you want to rip your own Films, you will need to store them in an iTunes library on a Mac or a PC, and then you can access them using Home Sharing.

You could also buy them from iTunes on your Mac/PC and then stream them the same way.

I'm not sure about using a US account on an Apple TV. They probably block this by IP, but even if you could get round this (I know some people have), any content you buy from the states would be bound to that account, and you could potentially lose it, as doing this violates their terms of service.

Thanks for the reply.

Probably still get an apple tv for tv shows and netflix and wait for movies to become available later. Will just stick to the one apple ID then as i also read you can only change the ID once every 90 days or something, so if i bought game of thrones in the US and streamed it i couldnt access my UK content for 3 months

Hopefully UK is going to get caught up with US shows like Game of thrones/Spartacus/Dexter etc? I dont want to buy the disks and dont want to pirate, wish the companies would get over the region locking and take my money!

First 3 seasons of Dexter are on Netflix.

If I was going to use both US and UK iTunes stores I would probably just get two Apple TVs since it would be a lot more convenient and they aren't terribly expensive when compared to the price of buying stuff from iTunes.

Awesome idea! Didn't even contemplate buying two apple TVs. This would work well, i wouldnt get two ipads though lol to be able to watch all the american shows on the move, however this would at least work until the UK itunes store picks its game up.

Just remember that if you start buying stuff on the US iTunes store, you will always need to have something running an american account.

Obviously that won't be an issue if you plan to just use US netflix or some such.

It's really stupid that people have to make compromises like this just because the movie producers can't get their head out their asses.

It's no wonder people pirate, the whole process of owning movies in itself is confusing and annoying. And we get ripped off over here as well, have you seen how much fox for example charges for season passes? (latest season of Cleveland show season pass in HD: £48. No one in the right mind would pay that.

It astounds me that TV companies complain and declare how much is lost due to piracy. When if they released their shows on a platform such as itunes like a week after airing, and made it available worldwide, so many people would choose to buy and support rather than pirate.

Just to confirm though i would need to buy two apple tvs to access a US and UK account from home? As switching apple ids and streaming from the cloud would account lock the apple tv for 90days?

I'm pretty sure you can change UK accounts back and forth as much as you want as I do it when my girlfriend comes round sometimes however I'm not sure about US and UK accounts.

Thank you thats good to know. Im moving in with my girlfriend next month and would like to use two account on one apple tv. Though i read somewhere about a 90 day lock on IOS devices if you download anything with an account then you cant use another account on that device for 90 days?

If the apple tv is exempt from this that would be pretty swish!

Yep it doesn't apply for Apple TV I think because you don't authorise it the same way you do on iOS devices and macs. You should be able to switch accounts freely
