Seems like an issue that is making a lot of people upset, especially at college campuses, where the Cisco VPN protocol IPSec seems to be preferred. Here at Penn State University, it is impossible to connect to the campus-wide WiFi, which is very frustrating since the coverage and speeds are very good.
I wrote to Apple a few weeks ago, letting them know the considerable demand for this VPN protocol. Remember the news surrounding the iPhone name copyright issue between Apple and Cisco? Remember the outcome? The two companies said that they would both use the iPhone name for their products and both work together to integrate each other's technology.
If you are in the same situation, with no way to connect to your company's/school's wireless network because pure IPSec is not supported, I encourage you to let Apple know you want this feature. A request from a lot of loyal customers should go a long way!
